With the continuous strengthening of China's mineral mining, surface mines, shallow mines, and easily identifiable mines are decreasing, and the recoverable reserves of important resources have dropped significantly. It is difficult to meet the requirements of modernization. demand, seriously restricting the future economic development. At present, China's core drilling equipment is still dominated by vertical shaft drilling rigs developed in the 1970s. Except for a few models with a drilling capacity of up to 3000 m, most models are within 2000 m. Existing drilling equipment cannot meet the needs of deep prospecting either in terms of drilling capability or adaptability to various new drilling techniques. In order to provide strong support for deep geological exploration and lithospheric scientific drilling research, it is urgent to carry out research on the complete set of geological core drilling technology and equipment for deep holes. For this reason, the China Geological Survey will carry out the research on "3500 m core drilling equipment" as one of the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" ground survey projects. This paper mainly analyzes the design process of the drilling rig's power head.

1 The function and design requirements of the power head

As one of the core components of the drilling rig, the main function of the power head is to provide the required torque and speed for the rotation of the drill pipe and drilling tools, so as to achieve the purpose of continuously rotating the bottom drill bit to break the rock and continuously extend the drilling. For this reason, its structure and performance must meet the following requirements of the drilling process.

(1) The speed and torque of the power head should meet the requirements of the drilling process. During the drilling process, the torque and rotational speed required by the drill bit are determined by the nature and structure of the rock at the bottom of the hole, as well as the diameter of the drill bit and the drilling method. It is required that the speed and torque of the power head can be adjusted to the best, and the adjustment range should be compatible with the drilling process and method to meet the needs of various environments to the greatest extent.

(2)The power head shall have appropriate pressurized drilling and lifting devices to meet the requirements of the pressurized and depressurized drilling process.

(3)The gears and bearings in the power head should be well lubricated during the drilling process to avoid common gear failures such as tooth surface wear, tooth surface pitting, and tooth surface gluing; it can ensure that the bearings do not It will burn out due to excessive temperature, which can prolong the service life of the bearing.

(4) The diameter of the through hole of the power head should match the type of drilling rig, drilling process and method.

(5) The power head should be stable during the rotation process, with less vibration and noise.

 

2 The main technical parameters of power head design are based on

According to the required drilling depth of a 3500 m drilling rig, the main technical parameters of the power head of the drilling rig are determined as follows: output torque 3000-13000 N m, system pressure 31 MPa, spindle speed 0-605 r/min, lifting capacity 800 kN.

 

3 Power head scheme design

3.1 Design of the overall structural scheme of the power head of the drilling rig. The power head adopts the driving mode of double motors and one-stage gear reduction at the beginning. The displacement of the two motors is 190 mL/r, and the speed can be adjusted steplessly. , the supplier recommends to choose 4 sets of 160mL/r motors, because there are many 160mL/r motors on the market, the price is affordable, and the delivery period is short. The price is high and the delivery period is long, so the driving method of 4 motors plus one-stage gear reduction is finally adopted. The drive motor is infinitely variable, and can be changed steplessly between the maximum displacement and the  displacement, so it has a wide range of speed regulation, so that the final output speed of the power head can adapt to the needs of different drilling conditions. The stepless change of the speed of the power head (variable torque) is realized through the electric proportional control, and the stepless speed change of the power head (volume speed regulation) is realized by controlling the output flow of the pump. In the transmission system, one-stage gear transmission is adopted, which can reduce the structural size of the power head, increase the transmission efficiency, and can output the transmission torque to the maximum extent.
